‘OC 아시안 비즈니스 엑스포’ 성황리 마쳐
연방·시 정부기관들 부스·스폰서 참가
주류 기업들도 대거 제품·서비스 홍보

OC한인상공회의소(이하 OC상의 회장 패트릭 우)가 14개 아시안 커뮤니티 미국 한국 단체와 공동 주최한 ‘제 4회 오렌지 카운티 아시안 비즈니스 엑스포’가 한인.아시안.미국 기업과 정부 기관 등 65개 일반 관람객 1000명이 참가한 가운데 10일 열렸다.
이날 엑스포에는 VIP로 미셸 박 스틸 가주 조세형평국 부위원장 돈 와그너 가주 68지구 하원의원 휴 누엔 OC서기국 국장 최석호 어바인 시장 마이클 보 파운틴 밸리 시장 등 정치인과 정부 기관 및 기업 대표가 대거 참석하며 이들이 아시안 커뮤니티와 비즈니스에 주목하고 있음을 보여줬다.
아시안 커뮤니티에 눈도장 찍기는 부스 및 스폰서 참가로 이어졌다. 중소기업청(SBA).소수계비즈니스개발청(MBDA).국제무역관리청(ITA) 조세형평국(BOA) OC교통국(OCTA).OC서기국 리버사이드 가든그로브.헤멧 등 연방에서 시 단위까지 각 정부와 커버드캘리포니아 남가주에디슨 남가주개스컴퍼니 등 정부 기관이 아시안 커뮤니티와의 교류를 원했다.
미국 기업들도 아시안 시장에 눈독을 들였다. 뱅크오브아메리카 체이스 이스트웨스트 등 은행에서부터 월마트 타임워너 등 대기업들이 엑스포에 참가했다. 에이어스호텔 델타에어라인 페창가카지노&리조트 등 올해 처음 참가하는 업체도 많았다.
이들은 관람객에 도움이 될 만한 정보를 담은 안내물과 펜 재활용가방 등 다양한 판촉물을 나눠주며 각 회사와 제품 서비스를 홍보했다. 특히 부스마다 작게는 머그컵 크게는 몇백 달러 상당의 상품을 내걸고 경품 추첨을 하며 고객 유치에 열을 올렸다.
한인 커뮤니티에서는 윌셔.유니티.BBCN 은행과 롯데호텔 한미피아노 등 10개 가량의 업체가 엑스포에 나왔다.
하지만 미국 및 아시안 커뮤니티에서 금융 보험 부동산 의료에서부터 미용 요식까지 다양한 업종의 스몰비즈니스가 대거 참가한 데 반해 한인 업체는 참가가 저조하고 다양성이 떨어져 아쉬움을 남겼다.
패트릭 우 회장은 “해를 거듭할수록 엑스포가 알려지면서 올해는 참가하겠다고 먼저 연락하는 단체 및 업체가 많았다. 부스가 모자랄 정도였다”며 “내년에는 규모를 확대해 축제 형식을 개최할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

The Joyful Entertainment Group was formed in 2011, and was the idea of Mr. Ngo Trung Vo with the ethos that music and song brings joy and happiness into the lives of everyone. Now the group is leading by Kim-Yen Huynh. Robert Nguyen is Music Director and Sound Engineer. Their activities to perform singing to residents at various nursing homes in Orange County and at many of the community group as a charitable music program.
Deputy District Director
Rachel Baranick is the Deputy District Director of the Santa Ana District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration with service responsibility for the counties of Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino in Southern California. In fiscal year 2013, the Santa Ana District Office approved 1,561 loans generating $1,331,068,618 ($1.3 billion) in financial assistance to small businesses. In addition, the Santa Ana District Office awarded 8(a) contracts for a total of $45 million.
As Deputy District Director, Ms. Baranick is responsible for the delivery of SBA programs and services to approximately 6 million people in the tri-county area, which covers over 28,000 square miles. Small businesses in the geographic area comprise in excess of 600,000, representing 16% of the total California business population. Ms. Baranick is also responsible for the management and oversight of SBA Resource Partners including three Women’s Business Centers, three SCORE chapters and a Regional Lead Center with a network of five Small Business Development Centers and three satellite locations. The district office and its resource partners provided counseling and training assistance to approximately 30,000 clients in fiscal year 2013.
Rachel joined the SBA in 1988 as a Business Development Specialist for the Inland Empire. She moved to the loan servicing department in 1992 as a Loan Specialist and became Chief of Liquidation in 1995. She has served as the Deputy District Director since 1997 for the Santa Ana District and most recently as the Acting District Director for the New York City District Office.
Prior to coming to SBA, Rachel worked for the Internal Revenue Service in a professional position where she also coached trainees. She has worked in both the private and public sectors.
Rachel grew up in the Los Angeles area, where her father owned a small business. She graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and has subsequently completed graduate courses at California State University, Fullerton.
Paul Smith is an accomplished professional with twenty-five years experience in business development. His career encompasses both the private and public sectors. His experience includes sales management, direct marketing, export promotion, and matchmaking, for markets worldwide. As Business Development Specialist and District International Trade Officer for the U.S. Small Business Administration, Mr. Smith is responsible for outreach to the business community for the Santa Ana District office. His expertise focuses on International Relations, High Tech industries & Native American outreach. Formerly, as the Business Development Specialist for the Minority Business Development Agency, Mr. Smith was responsible for the selection, monitoring and advising of grant projects. In addition he was responsible for the Native American and International Business Development activities for the western region. He works closely with private industries, trade associations, state / federal Agencies and local chambers to promote international trade.
Beginning with General Electric Mr. Smith has had progressive responsibility for the sales of engineered products and services with multimillion-dollar budgets. Mr. Smith’s responsibilities have included the development of sales representation worldwide. He was the Vice-Consul-Trade for the British Consulate, and worked closely with the UK/British exporters in High Tech industries and was the national team leader for the Environmental Industry Sector. As the Manager / Senior Trade Specialist for the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center in Manhattan, New York, and the Executive Secretary of the District Export Council he managed a staff of International Trade Specialists and industry professionals focused on the promotion of both products and services. As Senior Trade Consultant with the California Technology, Trade & Commerce Agency Mr. Smith organized and facilitated all aspects of trade shows, trade and reverse trade missions to target markets worldwide. These industries included medical, biotech, environmental, information technology, telecommunications, architecture, food processing and apparel.
Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and also conducted his post-graduate studies at XavierUniversity, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Smith has received certificates in International Marketing & Sales, International Finance, Investment Specialist, U.S. Customs Broker, and Import/Export Compliance.

Garden Grove, CA July 15, 2014 - The forth annual Asian Business Expo will be held at the Embassy Suites Anaheim South Hotel on Sept 10, 2014 and the new website address ishttp://www.TheAsianBusinessExpo.com. Many national and local companies would be participating this year in the expo. Sources confirmed that Walmart, the global retail giants would also be participating in the expo to promote local business and Asian professional interaction.
When contacted, Ernest Lee, the Chairperson of the Expo, said, “We are very proud to present the forth Asian Business Expo.” He further added, “Since Orange County is one of the biggest markets in U.S. and Asian buying power is growing rapidly, exhibiting companies will promote local business and Asian professional interaction in the area. This is another way of saying ‘thank you’ to local consumers. They also like to understand how they can improve their service from community leaders.”
Sources confirmed that, 2014 Asian business expo would offer networking opportunities. The attendees would be able to forge new business ties during the event. Around 1,000 guests are expected to attend the event. All the business owners of targeted ethnic groups would have a forum to work together along with an opportunity to learn about cultures of others.
IT companies like Biztech and PhiConnect.com are also exhibiting to share latest IT technology to build up company websites, online shopping stores and online marketing. The CA State Board of Equalization and Orange County Clerk Office will also come out to give latest changes and guidelines in tax and services like property records, marriage licenses and ceremonies.
New York Life Insurance Company and Prudential would be introducing their products including life insurance, mutual funds, and retirement solutions to protect the families of clients. The team behind the Expo has also invited many local financial companies including Uniti Bank in Buena Park, Community Lending Group, East West Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and Bank of America among others. The expo is also expected to have more speakers this year when compared to the previous one. Suzanna Choi, the president of Tashiro Choi and Associates will be speaking about Health Care Reform and California Small Businesses.
